Testing Sites in Firefox 5, Chrome 12 and Opera 11.50

A slew of new browser releases is just around the corner. Chrome 12 was just released while Firefox 5 and Opera Next (11.50) are available for public preview. Even Internet Explorer has made available a platform preview of version 10. With all this rapid rate of new releases, I have to make sure Lisantra’s clients’ sites work in the latest browsers.

I tested Lisantra’s latest HTML5/CSS3 sites: Triano.com and Jamesacook.com. The results were encouraging:

  • Firefox 5: Perfect; no changes needed,
  • Chrome 12: Perfect; no changes needed,
  • Opera 11.50: Triano.com required some changes to future proof its CSS since Opera now supports CSS3 Gradients.

What happened with Triano.com on Opera Next (11.50)?

Modernizr now switched on the .cssgradients style rule since it detected that Opera now supported CSS Gradients (since 11.10). However, I needed to update the rule by adding a declaration with the opera-specific prefix “-o-“:

background-image: -o-linear-gradient(bottom, #DBDFE6 10%, #E8E9EA 20%); /* Opera 11.10+ */

You, too can use the upcoming browser versions

Just be sure to install them alongside your usual, stable versions. Contact me to help you along.
